Security has become a focus when designing a product, but the recent push on cybersecurity regulations globally has further highlighted the importance of product security.
With regulations such as the Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure Act (PSTI) in the UK, Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) in the EU, and new SEC rules on cybersecurity disclosures in the US coming into effect, organisations are ramping up their security strategy to mitigate financial and reputational risks due to non-compliance.
The main objective of these security regulations is to define security standards for connected IoT products. These standards focus on security throughout the product life cycle – from security requirements when designing the product, right through to defining product support to fix product vulnerabilities through security updates.
Like any effective strategy, security strategy should start with empowering people with the right skills and knowledge to help with strategy execution.
